Art Submission Terms & Conditions

By submitting artwork through this website, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions.
1. Eligibility
Submissions are open to artists who wish to create original artwork inspired by The Realm.
Artists under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to submit their artwork. If an artist under 18 is selected for publication, Raven Media Corp. may require written consent from a parent or legal guardian before the artwork is published or payment is issued.
2. Original Artwork
All submitted artwork must be your own original work.
By submitting artwork, you confirm that you created the submission and that it does not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights of any third party.
3. Generative AI
Artwork created in whole or in part using generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools is not eligible for consideration.
By submitting artwork, you confirm that generative AI was not used to create any portion of the submitted artwork.
Raven Media Corp. reserves the right to reject or remove a submission if there is reason to believe generative AI was used in its creation.
4. Selection
Submitting artwork does not guarantee publication or selection as a Feature Artist.
Raven Media Corp. will determine which submissions, if any, are selected for inclusion in an upcoming issue of The Realm. Selection decisions are at the discretion of Raven Media Corp.
Selected artists will be contacted using the information provided with their submission.
5. Artist Compensation
Artists whose artwork is selected and published as part of the Feature Artist program will receive a one-time payment of $100 CAD.
Any additional payment details or documentation required to issue payment will be communicated directly to the selected artist.
Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, the $100 CAD payment represents the complete compensation associated with the publication and promotional use of the selected artwork as described in these Terms.
6. Artist Feature
If selected, you agree to provide additional information for your Feature Artist profile.
This may include answering a short series of questions about yourself, your artwork, inspirations, and creative process.
Selected artists will also be asked to provide either a suitable photograph/headshot or an original illustrated portrait or self-portrait for use alongside their Feature Artist profile.
Raven Media Corp. reserves the right to edit submitted written responses for spelling, grammar, length, clarity, and publication formatting while making reasonable efforts to preserve the artist’s intended meaning.
7. Ownership of Your Artwork
You retain ownership and copyright in your original artwork.
Submitting artwork does not transfer ownership of your artwork to Raven Media Corp.
The Realm, including its characters, names, logos, locations, story elements, and other associated intellectual property, remains the property of Raven Media Corp. and/or its respective rights holders. Submission or publication of fan-created artwork does not grant the submitting artist ownership or rights in The Realm intellectual property.
8. Permission to Publish Selected Artwork
If your artwork is selected, you grant Raven Media Corp. a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, publish, display, distribute, and promote the selected artwork in connection with the Feature Artist program and The Realm.
This may include use:
- In print and digital editions of The Realm
- On The Realm and Raven Media Corp. websites
- On associated social media accounts
- In promotional materials relating to The Realm or the Feature Artist program
- In posts or materials promoting the issue in which your artwork appears
This licence does not prevent you from displaying, sharing, selling, or otherwise using your original artwork yourself, subject to any underlying intellectual property rights associated with The Realm.
Raven Media Corp. will make reasonable efforts to credit the artist when the artwork is displayed or published.
9. Submitted Artwork That Is Not Selected
Artwork that is not selected for the Feature Artist program will not be published or used for promotional purposes without the artist’s permission.
Submission alone does not grant Raven Media Corp. the right to publicly use artwork that has not been selected.
10. File and Publication Requirements
Selected artists may be asked to provide a higher-resolution or alternate-format version of their artwork suitable for print production.
Raven Media Corp. may make reasonable technical adjustments required for publication, including resizing, cropping, colour conversion, or other print-production adjustments.
Any substantial alteration to the artwork will require the artist’s approval.
11. Artist Credit
Selected artists will be credited using the name or artist name provided or subsequently approved by the artist.
Artists may also be given the opportunity to include a website, portfolio, or social media account as part of their Feature Artist profile.
12. No Guarantee of Publication Date
Selection does not guarantee publication in a specific issue or on a specific date. Raven Media Corp. may determine which upcoming issue is most appropriate for a selected artist and may change publication schedules when necessary.
13. Inappropriate or Ineligible Content
Raven Media Corp. reserves the right to reject submissions that contain unlawful, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, defamatory, plagiarized, infringing, or otherwise inappropriate material.
Submissions may also be rejected if they do not meet the requirements of the Feature Artist program or are considered unsuitable for the audience or tone of The Realm.
14. Personal Information
Information provided through the submission form will be used to review your submission, contact you regarding the Feature Artist program, and administer your participation if selected.
Personal contact information will not be published as part of the Feature Artist spread unless you specifically provide information, such as a website or social media handle, for public inclusion.
15. Withdrawal
You may request to withdraw your submission from consideration by contacting Raven Media Corp. before being notified that your artwork has been selected.
Once artwork has been approved for publication or incorporated into a print production process, withdrawal may no longer be possible.
16. Changes to the Program
Raven Media Corp. reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Feature Artist program or these Terms and Conditions when necessary.
Any changes will apply to submissions made after the updated Terms and Conditions are posted unless otherwise communicated to participating artists.
17. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting artwork, you confirm that:
- You have read and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
- The submitted artwork is your own original work.
- Generative AI was not used in its creation.
- You have the authority to submit the artwork.
- If you are under 18, you have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate.
If your artwork is selected, additional confirmation or documentation may be required before publication.
