Fantastic first volume to introduce you to a whimsical story! All the characters are beautifully designed and well-rounded. Great for all ages as you follow Ada and newfound friends on a great, fantastical adventure. The art is super cute and you may learn something along the way. Definitely excited for the next issue and the upcoming animated series! (Also, everyone should praise Bear, the cat!)

Saw this at Niagara Falls comic con. Right away the cover caught my eye. Good start! When I got home I read it and I really liked the story. The characters were in the beginning of their stories. “The grass is always greener” seems an over arching element. Looking forward to learning more especially where the fighting was learned! Also the lettering style is fresh and implies action and emotion. I also really liked the art style animation style but great expressions and character designs! Looking forward to next issue. Talked to my LCS about ordering so I can keep reading!

  11. The Treasure Belle –

It left me on a cliffhanger and I need to know! The characters have nerdy wholesome fantasy vibes and I can’t wait for the next one.

  12. Emily McPhee –

Loved it! Got so invested and then I saw the “to be continued” sign. Definitely keeping an eye open for issue 2.

  13. Brennan S. –

Great artwork and very succinct and entertaining writing. It reads like an episode of some of my favourite Cartoon Network shows growing up! I love the call backs to locations in Hamilton and am excited to see where the story leads. The first issue does an amazing job to pique your curiosity

I actually encountered one of the creators in Gage Park in Hamilton recently representing the team and their work. The cover art looked intriguing so I took a chance and bought a copy. I’ve had a chance to read it now and it’s off to a good start, one that begs for more. At the outset, at least, The Realm is a classic coming-of-age story where two young people, Ada and Isaac, meet up. They’re coming at life from opposite ends of the struggles with parental involvement and social relevance at school. Each sees in the other something they lack, though Ada is more up-front about it, where Isaac just wants to get through the day. Fate puts them together at the start of both the traditional journey into adulthood and a much more unusual one, through a mystic doorway into the Realm, in a cliffhanger that has the reader itching to step through with them. But that’s a story for next time…

So a few observations. First of all, I like that it’s set in Canada. With the market what it is, the inclination to pander and make it Anytown, USA is always there, and I’m grateful to the team that they nailed our colours to their mast. Thanks, guys. As well: I very much like the art style. It’s clean, angular and uncomplicated, bold and eye-catching, with colour work that’s deft, restrained, and nicely understated, which is pretty rare these days with the ability to digitally slop colour anywhere. The storytelling, too, is laid on with light touch. These are more or less ordinary young adults with relatable troubles, not angsty proto-superheroes with done-to-death crushingly tragic backstories. What we’re given is just enough to know they have what it takes for an adventure. I’ll be curious to see if this is a more or less “forever” adventure that Ada and Isaac disappear into, or if there will be a significant amount of back and forth between worlds that will enable them to make use of the skills gained in one world to better their situation when in the other. Will time in the Realm teach Isaac how to wrangle his parents and their expectations better? Or help Ada cope with her absent parent syndrome? Time, and the series’s creators, will tell.

Fell in love instantly. Great read with an engaging story and awesome artwork. Definitely worth checking out!

I like the vibe for a first outing. Find it funny Jason was talking RPGs but ends up left out of the adventure. Intrigued to find out if it’s a trapped situation or more we can go back and forth situation. The art reminded me a bit of the series glitch techs.

Really liking the concept, it’s a classic, and the decoding for the last page was fun but didn’t make any sense🥲
Deff gonna but the second one when it comes out so it better be out soon.

  19. Craig –

Got the comic book from the Dundas Cactus Festival, it caught my eye since it looked the most interesting, and it really did. It’s a really solid book, and it while it was a little rough, I was still satisfied with the final product. Hopefully it goes up from here.

My daughter and I bought this at Cactus Fest and could not wait to get home to read it. We love the art style, and the writing is very engaging. We cannot wait for Issue 2 and to meet the rest of the characters.

Picked this up from SuperCrawl in Hamilton

The colours and charcters really stood out on the cover and caught my attention. I couldn’t help myself and picked up the first issue along with a few pins! The artistic style chosen in my opinion, is that its charming and visually appealing making it a nice addition to my comic collection. After reading the first issue I’m excited and cant wait to see what awaits Issac and Ada in the next issue as well as the rest of series.

Keep up the fantastic work and a special thank you to Michael Carson for signing the cover!

  26. Korey –

A strong first issue. I’m intrigued to see where this goes and how the bond between these characters develops. And I want to see more of Bear

  27. Kay –

Got my copy from super crawl! I’m so teased by the characters of Ada and Isaac, who I feel we have already gotten to know. The art work is also fun and the writing is engaging. Can’t wait to read more :)

Me and my friend had the chance to speak with Michael at Super Crawl as we wish to make comics of our own someday and Michael was very kind and supportive, explaining the process behind Issue 1 of the Realm and his pitch to studios for a series. The art of the comic caught my eye immediately, it looks very nice and clean, just really like how it was drawn. It was a great first issue and overall intro to the story! I felt Issac and Ada were established well as our main human duo and I like how their personalities clashed in this intro. Also enjoyed the setting being in Canada as well as Tiffany Falls making an appearance. Cool to see local places like that represented in a comic you like. Looking forward to the rest of the story!
